Cat For Sale!

OK, so I am not what you would call a pet enthusiast. It’s not that I don’t like pets, its that I don’t like everything that comes with them—like the shedding, and the noise, and the fact that you have to comply with their schedule (any of you realizing why we don’t have kids yet?) We also don’t do the pet thing because Mike is allergic to them, so for now we are pet free, except…

So Mike has been gone this week, and I got a pretty bad cold to enjoy while he’s gone. The other night I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. In the middle of the night I awoke to a horrible sound. I really thought there was a baby crying on my front doorstep. Do you know what it was? A cat. A crying cat who likes to sit on my garden wall, next to my window and cry for HOURS! It did it again last night. That dumb cat is luck I was sedated by nightquil, or he might have had to dodge some flying shoes coming his way.

I am in no way an animal hater…I just don’t like being woken up by a crying cat. Can’t it go find another garden wall to sit on?

Virginia Beach

My wonderful husband kidnapped me for an anniversary weekend. We escaped to Virginia Beach for the weekend and it was great. This came at a great time because he had to be “in the field” all week, so we won’t see each other—it was nice to get some alone time before then.
Mike had never been to the Atlantic Ocean before…he is used to California beaches. One of the first things he noticed is that when the sun is setting there are shadows on the beach. He also noticed that the water seems very clam. I tried to convince him that the water is warmer than the Pacific, but it was a bit cold as it is still April.
We’ve been married for two years! It’s hard to believe! Sometimes I feel like we’ve been together forever, and sometimes I feel like it was yesterday that we got married. It’s been a great two years, with many more to come!

On the way home we stopped and toured the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk. It’s a pretty cool battleship and it was a great day to be outside.

It was a great weekend. I hope we can do it again soon!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone! I hope that you have had a wonderful day with lots of treats and eats!
Yesterday we went to the easiest Easter Egg hunt EVER!!!! It was raining pretty hard, so we drove up to the volunteer tent, they handed us goodie bags through the window and we returned home. We were taking my nieces and nephews to the egg hunt on base, and we never had to chase them or tell them to share, or anything.
Eric and Jenni came down and we spent the day together at home and the mall, so we could all get some wiggles out.
Our holiday has been pretty quiet. Now I have to get ready to go back to work. Mike is getting ready to work more in the field, so that means that we probably will see each other even less than we do now…oh well…I guess it’s just training me for this summer.

The Cannery...

So I haven’t been to the cannery in years…since before I started teaching, in fact. We went up yesterday so that we could get re-acquainted with the process of dry-pack canning. We had 10 people go up with us, and lots of stuff that people wanted to work on. I was amazed at how fast things went! In about 2 hours we canned apples, milk, flour, sugar, refried beans, white beans, white wheat, whit rice, and black beans. We probably would have done more but we had everything that we needed/wanted to take home! I had a lot of fun, and was reminded how easy it is to get your food storage going. We also picked up some potato pearls…so now I have to figure out what to make for dinner tonight so we can have them (I love those things!).

Conference and Cherry Blossoms

This weekend was great! Conference was good, and I must say that Isabella (my niece) was there for 3 of the 4 sessions, and she was really good…it helps that she likes to color and we could strap her into a high chair so she was confined.

On Sunday morning, we went into DC to see the Cherry Blossoms. This is one of my favorite times of year, because things are starting to bud, and everything looks so beautiful. We left home pretty early, and got up there to fight the crowds for the 10 mile race. It wasn’t bad…I found a parking space quickly, and we didn’t have to walk too far. Here are some pictures from our day.

After we gazed at the Cherry Blossoms for a while, we waled over to the Washington Monument. On the way there we found a tulip garden and Isabella had to stop and smell the flowers.
